What is Google Consent Mode V2?
Google Consent Mode V2 is a smart tool that helps you respect the privacy of website visitors. It ensures that you can still collect important data even if someone does not accept all cookies.
What's new?
There used to be 5 options regarding Google consent:
- ad_storage
Enables storage, such as cookies (web) or device IDs (apps), related to ads. - functionality_storage
Enables storage that supports the functionality of the website or app, e.g. language settings or products in a shopping basket. - personalization_storage
Enables storage related to personalisation, e.g. video recommendations. - security_storage
Enables storage related to security, such as authentication functionality, fraud prevention and other user protection. - analytics_storage
Enables storage, such as cookies (web) or device IDs (apps), related to analytics, e.g. visit duration.
Google is strengthening its enforcement of the EU's user consent policy as part of their commitment to a privacy-centric digital advertising system.
In version 2, users must submit two new parameters in consent mode in addition to ad_storage and analytics_storage, giving them more control over what happens to their data.
- ad_user_data
Sets consent for sending user data to Google for online advertising purposes. - ad_personalisation
Sets consent for personalised ads (e.g. remarketing).
How do you set up Google Consent Mode V2?
If you have set the Google consent via Gtag on the website, the developer can adjust this. More information can be found here. If you've set up Google consent via Google Tag Manager, you can adjust it here via the template used.
